This lithographic version on heavy papermeasures approximately 16.5" x 12.75".The "LIFE BOAT" imagery was a powerful propaganda tool used by FDR's supporters to emphasize his steady leadership in a crisis: the success of his New Deal policies, and the necessity of his continued guidance as global conflict loomed in Europe.The artwork serves as an allegorical tribute to FDR framing him as a steady savior navigating the nation through tumultuous times. The print depicts ROOSEVELTSTANDING- NO WHEELCHAIR - at the helm of a LIFE BOAT named "AMERICA." SOCIETY OF INDEPENDENT ARTISTS' 24TH ANNUAL EXHIBITION:was held in New York City, organized by the Society of Independent Artists which was renowned for its democratized, un-juried art exhibitions that allowed public exposure for unique political and contemporary art. BERTH'S original painting was showcased to the public alongside other prominent contemporary American artworks. Works exhibited there frequently went straight into private homes without the formal archival tracking used by traditional galleries so the location of BERTH'S original canvas is unknown.
