Typed on official Congress of the United States, House of Representatives letterhead of Nebraska Congressman George H. Heinke and signed at the bottom by Heinke.
Written just 13 days before the royal couple's June 8, 1939 reception at the U.S. Capitol, the letter discusses arrangements for their historic visit, including:
• The planned reception of the King and Queen by members of Congress in the Capitol Rotunda
• The decision that the monarch would not formally address Congress
• Limited space and extraordinary demand for admission
• Heinke stating that he had received about 50 requests for tickets
• His remark that although he ordinarily received a ticket for his wife, "This time I get NONE."
King George VI's 1939 trip marked the first visit to the United States by a reigning British monarch, making this an interesting contemporary congressional document connected directly to the historic royal visit.
