Original 1939–1940 Pontiac 6-Cylinder Indian Chief Hood Ornament with Hood Latch
Original pre-war Pontiac hood ornament featuring the iconic streamlined Indian Chief design used on 1939–1940 Pontiac
This is an original vintage chrome-plated ornament with its hood latch/mechanism still attached, making it a particularly interesting restoration piece. The latch and pin is there but missing the little piece that stop the pin from falling out.
The ornament features the distinctive sculpted Indian Chief profile at the front, long streamlined headdress, three horizontal decorative ribs and classic late-1930s Art Deco styling.
Condition: Good original vintage condition. The chrome ornament retains a strong overall shine and presents very well for its age. It shows normal age-related scratches, scuffs, spotting, small areas of pitting and plating wear. There are some more noticeable imperfections around the headdress grooves and upper surfaces, all visible in the photographs.
The Indian Chief face remains very well defined with strong original detail.
The attached steel hood-latch mechanism shows significant surface rust and oxidation, but remains substantially intact as pictured. Function of the latch has not been tested.
No restoration history is known.
