Description
Published in 1933 (Showa 8) by Shooffero,
this original pre-war Japanese art book, “Manchurian Front Pen Drawing Album,” documents the Manchurian and North China fronts through detailed pen-and-ink illustrations.
Rather than photographs, the artist Ota Tenkyō recorded scenes of military operations, occupied cities, railways, fortifications, soldiers’ daily life, and local landscapes using precise line drawings.
The result is a rare visual record showing how the Imperial Japanese Army officially portrayed the continent during the early 1930s.
