Complete 1932 White School of Costume Art Extension Course, published in connection with the White Sewing Machine Company of Cleveland, Ohio.
This substantial spiral-bound home-study course taught dressmaking and clothing construction, combining sewing techniques with instruction in garment design and related aspects of dressmaking. It is an interesting surviving example of early 20th-century sewing education and correspondence instruction.
This particular copy has a wonderful documented history of use. A previous student’s name and “Nov. 1935” are handwritten on the front cover, indicating that the course was being used only a few years after publication. A later inscription inside reads “To Teresa N. Brown from Grandma 3-93” showing the book being gifted nearly 60 years later.
