1932 Amelia Earhart Braves Field Boston Mayor Curley Aviator Glass Negative OOAK

Exceptional, one-of-a-kind (OOAK) camera-original antique 4x5 gelatin silver glass plate negative captured on June 29, 1932, by Boston Herald-Traveler staff photojournalist Leslie Jones, documenting the citywide celebration at Braves Field honoring Amelia Earhart following her historic solo transatlantic flight.

On May 20–21, 1932, Earhart made history as the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Five weeks later, Boston welcomed her with an official municipal reception and parade culminating in public ceremonies on the field:

  • The Central Figures:

    • Amelia Earhart sits at center on the outfield turf, showing her cropped curly hair, bead necklace, and dark tailored jacket over a light collared shirt.

    • Boston Mayor James Michael Curley sits to her right in a dark three-piece suit, holding his straw boater hat in his lap.

    • George Palmer Putnam (Earhart\'s husband and publisher) stands directly behind her among the assembled welcoming committee.

  • The Venue: Braves Field, Boston, Massachusetts. The background captures the distinctive outfield perimeter wall with contemporary commercial billboard signage for The Boston Herald, Camel Cigarettes, and Gem Micromatic Blades, along with the grandstand bleachers.

Format: Heavy antique silver gelatin glass plate negative, measuring approximately 4x5 inches, exposed directly in Leslie Jones\'s press camera on June 29, 1932.

Please Note: This listing is for the single (1) original antique glass plate negative only. Any positive photographic images shown in this listing are modern inverted digital scans provided solely to show the underlying image. No physical paper photograph, modern print, or paper reproduction is included.

Condition: Very Good to Excellent antique condition. The glass plate is structurally sound, stable, and completely intact with no cracks, breaks, or fractures. The silver gelatin emulsion is clean, crisp, and well preserved across Earhart, Curley, the platform guests, and the stadium background. Shows minor perimeter handling marks and edge silver mirroring along the outer borders consistent with a working 1932 newspaper press negative.

The glass plate negative measures 4 x 5In.
