Early 1930s Prohibition-era Weinhard\'s Lime Rickey 12-ounce green glass bottle with original labels. Produced by the Henry Weinhard Company of Portland Oregon, this was a non-alcoholic soda drink manufactured as a legal alternative to alcoholic beverages during Prohibition. Such bottles were distributed by breweries that adapted to the restrictions of the era by producing similar NA products; this dates to either towards the end of, or immediately after the repeal of Prohibition. A Lime Rickey was a sparkling limeade, with variations of either raspberry or cherry sugar syrup. Weinhard’s sodas were so popular that they never went out of style; the company still produces quality, delicious sodas today!
The bottle features the original paper label which touts that it has no artificial colors or flavors, and that it is Made with pure Mexican Lime Juice. The paper neck label has instructions to turn the bottle upside down before using. There are the remnants of a silver foil label near the top; this was probably to emulate a champagne bottle since it was a sparkling product. The bottle was made by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company, who was a major American glass manufacturer known for producing bottles for beverage companies during this period. The bottom is marked with a straight bar and the number 30-S above it.
Condition of the bottle is used, empty. The labels have edge wear and soiling in places. The main label has a torn away area with edge creasing at the upper right edge; the two lower corner tips are missing. The neck label’s upper right edge is lifted up, and the lower corner tip is torn off. No chips or cracks in the bottle, but it does have some scuffs and scratches in places.
