Original 1930s Estonian military photograph showing a large formation of soldiers of the 3rd Independent Infantry Battalion stationed in Valga, Estonia.
The soldiers are photographed outdoors in uniform and long military greatcoats. Many are armed with rifles, while officers or NCOs stand prominently near the center of the formation.
The handwritten inscription on the reverse identifies the unit as the 3rd Independent Infantry Battalion (3. üksik jalaväepataljon), 1st Company, and gives the location as Valga.
The reverse also bears two handwritten dates: 15 April 1936 and 15 April 1938. Because both dates appear on the photograph, the exact date of the image is not stated with certainty.
Valga is an Estonian town on the border with Latvia. The photograph dates from the period of the independent Republic of Estonia before World War II.
