1928 RCA Radiola 60 console ("highboy") radio — a genuinely significant piece of radio history. The Radiola 60 was the first "modern" superheterodyne radio to run on AC mains power with AC tubes, eliminating the need for external batteries that earlier sets required. Sold by RCA from September 1928 through 1930.
Ornate Jacobean Revival-style cabinet with pressed metal control escutcheons, fretwork lyre-motif speaker grille, and turned legs. Cabinet made by The Associated Cabinet Factories Inc., Chicago (maker's plate present).
The upper chassis/receiver unit lifts out of the lower cabinet as a separate piece — makes handling and transport significantly easier than a one-piece console.
