Remarkable original leather-bound photograph album containing more than 100 authentic black-and-white snapshots documenting family life and travel from approximately 1923 through 1930.
Preserved intact in its original cord-bound booklet, the album features a beautifully aged black leather cover with gilt “Photographs” lettering, heavy black paper pages, handwritten dates and locations, and creatively hand-torn/deckled photograph borders. This is a complete period archive—not an assembled collection of unrelated or loose photographs.
Documented locations and dates include:
• Atlantic City, New Jersey — 1926
• Toronto, Canada — 1927
• New York City
• 1923 and 1929 pages
• “Peggy appears in every snap” — 1930
The album includes an outstanding range of early-20th-century subjects:
• Women’s 1920s fashion and hairstyles
• A woman holding an early box camera
• Women posed with antique automobiles
• Atlantic City beach and boardwalk scenes
• Period bathing suits and bathing-house imagery
• Visible Lucky Strike advertising/signage
• Toronto gardens and architecture
• New York City and travel scenes
• Family gatherings, outdoor recreation and portraits
• Handwritten captions, dates and place names
Also mounted within the album is an original period newspaper marriage announcement identifying members of the family and documenting a New York marriage, adding valuable provenance and helping connect the photographs to a specific family history.
The combination of more than 100 original photographs, named provenance, dated multi-city travel, early women-with-camera imagery, antique automobiles, period swimwear, recognizable advertising and the surviving leather-bound presentation makes this an unusually cohesive piece of American and Canadian social history.
The album remains intact, with the photographs still mounted to their original pages. It has not been dismantled, and no photographs have been removed for individual sale.
Condition is consistent with an approximately 100-year-old family archive. The leather binding and pages show expected rubbing, edge wear, surface marks and general aging. Photographs may exhibit fading, silvering, creases, small tears, mounting residue or other age-related wear. Some page and binding wear is present. Please examine every listing photograph carefully for the most accurate representation of contents and condition.
Sold complete and intact exactly as discovered. No photographs will be removed or sold separately.
A compelling acquisition for collectors of vernacular photography, women photographers, antique cameras, early automobiles, Atlantic City memorabilia, Toronto history, New York history, 1920s fashion, bathing-costume photography, travel ephemera, family archives and pre-Depression American social history.
