1922 Louisville & Nashville Railroad (L&N) Form 156 freight/waybill record book
Description
This is an original Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company Form 156 booklet used to record freight car movements and waybills.
• Date range: Labeled on the cover “Jan 7th 1922 to Mar 9th 1922” (roughly two months of entries).
• Cover: Worn marbled paper boards with a cloth spine. Typical utilitarian railroad stationery of the period.
• Contents: Printed columnar forms with handwritten entries. Columns include Date, W.B. (Waybill), Car, Pro. No. (probably Pro number or waybill number), and “Where From.”
Locations visible include Huntsville, Savannah, Decatur, Cornersville, and others — consistent with L&N’s southern network in Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia.
• Handwriting: Dense pencil and ink entries, calculations, and some names (e.g., “Edward Athene” / “Edward” appear in the more free-form pages). One section looks like a scratch pad or accounting notes mixed with the formal forms.
• Condition: Heavily used and worn. The binding is broken/loose (string-tied in places), covers are scuffed and stained, pages are yellowed and some are detached or frayed. This is expected for a working railroad record book that was carried and written in daily.
