During the early 20th century, mailing New Year postcards was a massively popular and affordable way to send seasonal wishes, largely replacing bulky formal greeting cards. Designs typically featured cozy winter motifs and symbols of warmth and good fortune for the coming year.

This particular card offers a nice piece of local postal history, having traveled between two historic Monmouth County coastal communities. Spring Lake, often referred to as the \"Irish Riviera\" for its historic estates and coastal charm, borders Manasquan directly to the south. The local flag cancel ties the piece neatly to the New Jersey shore.
