This postcard featuresthe Panama-Pacific International Exposition cancelheld in San Francisco, California. Although the exposition officially opened in 1915, preparations and promotional efforts were underway well before its opening day. The postal cancel on this card is dated October 3, 1914, showing it was mailed during the lead-up to the exposition’s grand debut.
The exposition celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal and symbolized San Francisco’s recovery after the devastating 1906 earthquake. The fairgrounds covered over 600 acres and featured monumental architecture, exhibitions from over 20 countries, and technological marvels of the era.
The card is addressed to Mr. Geo. Little at Stockdale Ranch in Bakersfield, California. The handwritten message reads simply:“Hello yourself and see how you like it.”This playful and cryptic note hints at an ongoing friendly exchange or inside joke between sender and recipient.
