J.H. Williams & Company, famously branded under the tagline \"Superior Drop-Forgings,\" was one of the most innovative and important industrial hand tool manufacturers in American history. During the late 19th century, tools were often laboriously handmade or crudely cast. J.H. Williams revolutionized the industry by utilizing the drop-forging process—forcing red-hot steel into precise dies using heavy mechanical drop hammers. This aligned the grain structure of the metal, resulting in tools with unprecedented strength and standardized sizing. Founded in 1882, the company pioneered the mass production of drop-forged tools and earned the moniker \"The Super Company\" among machinists and collectors for its high-quality metallurgy. The business was originally established by James Harvey Williams and Matthew Diamond in Flushing, Queens, as Williams & Diamond. By 1884, the company relocated to Red Hook, Brooklyn, and was officially renamed J.H. Williams & Co.
