Vintage/Antique 48-star American flag, a classic historical textile that was official from 1912 to 1959.
The 48-star flag was the standard for 47 years and flew during major historical events like both World Wars and the Korean War.Design: The flag features 6 neat rows of 8 stars each, a design that became standard under President Taft in 1912. Collectibility: Authentic 48-star flags from makers like Annin Flagmakers are highly sought after by historical collectors. Annin & Co., established in 1847, is one of the oldest flag manufacturers in the US. WWII-era Annin burial flags were crafted following strict U.S. government specifications. They were traditionally made of high-quality 100% cotton, which prevented the flag from sliding off a casket.The manufacturing process included:Fabric & Dyeing: White cotton bolts were vat-dyed into deep, rich red and blue colors.Stripes: Each red and white stripe was cut and expertly stitched together using heavy-duty lock-stitching to prevent tearing.The Canton & Stars: The blue canton was carefully sewn onto the striped field. The white stars were embroidered or appliquéd using specialized industrial looms. During the WWII era, these flags typically featured 48 stars.Finishing: Canvas heading and durable brass grommets were added to the hoist. Grave / Casket Flag: 5 x 9.5 feet.
