The \"Interurban\" Experience: Unlike the soot-heavy steam engines of the era, the Puget Sound Electric Railway offered a \"clean\" commute using overhead electrical wires. The 70-minute travel time for the 36-mile trip was exceptionally competitive for the early 1900s.
The Technology: The image on the card shows a multi-car electric train set. These systems were the precursors to modern light rail, peaking in popularity before the widespread adoption of the automobile and the improved highway systems of the 1920s.
