DESCRIPTION
Original 1909 advertising postcard calendar for Franklin Bell & Son, General Merchandise, South Lunenburg, Vermont, with the advertising slogan “Quality and Price Right.”
An especially attractive complete 12-month calendar, with each month printed on a separate heavy postcard-format card and tied together at the top with a green ribbon. Each monthly card features a different full-color illustration of a fashionable Edwardian-era woman, along with a small calendar for that month.
The illustrated subjects/captions visible on the cards include Yellow Roses, His Valentine, The Matinee Girl, The Easter Hat, In From the Fields, American Beauties, Vacation Days, Afternoon Tea, The Girl in Red, Chrysanthemums, Early Snow, and New Year’s Greeting.
The backs are printed “CALENDAR POST CARD” with divided correspondence/address areas and a stamp box. Several were actually used as postcards and retain one-cent Franklin stamps, South Lunenburg, Vermont postmarks, addresses and handwritten messages. Visible postmarks date to 1909, adding nice local postal-history interest.
The fronts are marked “COPY’T ’08, THE O. CO. N.Y.”
