Antique 1909 Royal Copenhagen Annual Christmas Plate, “Snow Landscape,” designed by Stephan Ussing.
Dating to only the second year of Royal Copenhagen’s celebrated annual Christmas plate series, which began in 1908, this is an especially early example from one of the longest-running porcelain collectible series in the world. The atmospheric blue-and-white underglaze design depicts a quiet snow-covered Danish landscape beneath stars and hanging fir cones.
Unlike the later approximately 7 1/8-inch standard plates, this early 1909 issue was produced in the smaller approximately 16 cm / 6 1/4-inch format used at the beginning of the series.
This is a desirable first-quality example, with the Royal Copenhagen crown and three-wave factory marks intact and without the cancellation mark used for second-quality porcelain. A hand-applied blue painter/finisher number is present beside the factory marks.
The reverse also retains an attractive original gold A.B. Schou retailer label from Ny Østergade in Copenhagen — a particularly nice surviving period detail on a plate now more than 115 years old.

CONDITION: Excellent antique condition, presenting remarkably close to near mint for its age. No chips, cracks, hairlines, crazing, or repairs noted. The glaze remains exceptionally glossy and clean with rich blue coloration, crisp relief, and very little visible surface wear. Minor age-appropriate manufacturing/foot-ring irregularities are present on the reverse. The original hanging thread or ribbon is no longer present. The gold A.B. Schou retailer label remains very well preserved. Please see all photographs for the most complete condition assessment.
