This is an exceptionally rare, original Gilded Age 1908 corporate land promotion and meteorological booklet titled "Climatic Data of the East Coast of Florida." Published by the Land Department of Henry Flagler's historic Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) in St. Augustine, Florida, this 32-page booklet was designed to entice northern investors, agriculturalists, and tourists to relocate to the developing Florida frontier.
A spectacular piece of early Florida boosterism and railroad history, the interior opens with official correspondence between U.S. Weather Bureau Section Director A.J. Mitchell and legendary Florida explorer and FEC Third Vice-President J.E. Ingraham. The booklet provides extensive multi-decade statistical tables detailing temperatures and rainfall metrics intended to promote the region's agricultural stability, specifically profiling frontier settlements like New Smyrna, Titusville, Fort Pierce, Hypoluxo, and Key West. It concludes with an essay addressing the regional threat of "Severe Storms." Most notably, the reverse cover features a beautifully detailed, crisp engraved transit map of the entire Florida East Coast Railway system extending down to Key West and the Caribbean.
