1907 Kentucky Mechanical And Electrical Engineering Record Railroad Locomotive:
$75.00

Original December 1907 issue of The Mechanical Engineering & Electrical Engineering Record, Volume 1, Number 3, published by the College of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, State University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky.

An unusually scarce early University of Kentucky engineering publication with particularly strong railroad and steam-locomotive content. The University of Kentucky\'s history of its College of Engineering records that The Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Record began publication in 1907 and continued only through the 1909 school year, making this Volume 1 issue an early example of the short-lived publication.

Contents include “The W. J. Murphy Method of Examining and Instructing Railway Employees” by Professor F. Paul Anderson, illustrated with early railroad photographs; “The Walschaert Valve Gear” by J. K. Browning, with technical mechanical diagrams; and “The Mechanical Engineer in a Steel Plant” by F. G. Cutler, along with editorial material, athletics, faculty material and period advertisements.

Includes a full-page portrait of William J. Murphy, identified in the publication as Vice President of the Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific Railway and Vice President of the Alabama Great Southern Railroad. Particularly appealing illustrated pages show early passenger railroad equipment and marker/signal-light instruction.

Original textured wrappers with attractive period typography and mechanical/electrical artwork. The front wrapper specifically promotes the railway-employee and Walschaert valve-gear articles.

The publication shows age and use consistent with its 119-year age, including overall toning, scattered spotting/soiling, edge and corner wear, small creases and general handling wear. The lower left corner of the front wrapper shows heavier wear. Interior pages remain quite presentable and illustrations are clear. Please review photographs closely for condition.

A scarce piece of early University of Kentucky engineering history with excellent crossover interest for collectors of Kentucky history, railroadiana, steam locomotives, mechanical engineering and early technical education.
