Washburn-Crosby Company grew out of a flour mill Cadwallader Washburn built on the Mississippi River in Minneapolis in 1866. Its flour took top honors at an 1880 international milling competition, and the company renamed its winning product Gold Medal in commemoration — a brand still on grocery shelves today.
This card is a direct-to-consumer order form, meant to be filled in with a name and address and routed through the customer\'s own wholesale grocer to secure barrels of Gold Medal flour at set prices. The warning printed across the top, that the order couldn\'t be filled unless mailed at once, pushed for a fast response.
Washburn-Crosby merged with several other regional millers in 1928 to become General Mills, one of the country\'s largest food companies, which still sells Gold Medal flour under the same name today.
