1906 Ridgefield Park NJ Plumbing Inspection Certificate - Board of Health:
$9.59

This is an original 1906 plumbing inspection certificate from the Board of Health of Ridgefield Park, Bergen County, New Jersey, issued to certify compliance with local sanitary codes. The document, dated June 26, 1906, formally attests that the plumbing work performed for property owner J. M. Tomlinson by plumber G. G. Gaetz, under plan number 621, was found to be in full compliance with the municipal ordinance entitled “An Ordinance Regulating the Plumbing and Drainage of Buildings.” The certificate is addressed to Louis Weiss, Esq., and bears the official signature of Plumbing Inspector L. A. Olsen. This artifact exemplifies the Progressive Era's public health initiatives and the formalization of building trades regulation, representing a critical shift toward standardized municipal oversight of urban infrastructure and sanitation. The certificate is a printed form with key details filled in by hand, a common practice for early 20th-century municipal documents. The paper exhibits expected age-related toning, with a central vertical fold and slight edge wear, yet all text remains fully legible. The reverse side features faint, largely illegible printed text from a standard business form layout, along with a faded cursive inscription, suggesting the document was later repurposed or filed with related paperwork. As a piece of regulatory ephemera, it provides tangible evidence of early code enforcement, the professionalization of plumbing inspection, and the specific administrative history of Ridgefield Park during a period of significant urban development and public health reform.
