This card was originally produced as an interactive heat-reveal novelty: warming part of the image revealed a concealed design or visual surprise. Because of the card’s age, the heat-sensitive feature has not been tested and no attempt should be made to activate it without appropriate care.
The front is copyrighted 1906 by the American Journal Examiner. The reverse states, “Compliments of Boston Sunday American,” connecting it to William Randolph Hearst’s newspaper empire and the early history of American newspaper comic strips.
A particularly appealing crossover collectible for admirers of Happy Hooligan, Frederick Burr Opper, early newspaper comics, moon imagery, optical novelties, and antique humor postcards.
Condition:
Antique condition with corner rounding, edge wear, age toning, scattered spotting and soiling, surface marks, and light bends or creases. The reverse has staining, faint color transfer, and a small pencil notation. Unposted and never addressed, with no stamp or postmark. The original heat-sensitive novelty feature has not been tested and is not guaranteed to remain functional. Please examine all photographs carefully for the complete condition.
