Authentic 1905 antique postcard featuring Oakland Beach in Rye, New York, with a wonderful early 20th-century beach scene showing visitors along the shoreline, including women and children in period dress and a woman carrying a parasol.
The image provides a fascinating glimpse of summertime recreation more than 120 years ago, with cottages and buildings visible along the rocky shoreline in the background.
The front is marked “Oakland Beach” and includes an original handwritten message along the lower edge. The card was mailed in August 1905 and retains its original postage stamp and postal cancellations.
This is an undivided-back postcard, characteristic of the early postcard era, when the reverse was reserved for the recipient’s address and messages were generally written on the picture side.
