1899 T.W. Ingersoll “Grey Eagle & Family” Sioux Stereoview – Original
Offered here is an original late-19th-century T.W. Ingersoll stereoview/stereograph, featuring Grey Eagle and Family at a Sioux Lodge.
The front is clearly printed:
“436. Grey Eagle and Family. Sioux Lodge. Copyrighted, 1899, by T. W. Ingersoll.”

The Smithsonian Institution’s National Anthropological Archives catalogs this exact image as “Grey Eagle and family” and identifies it as a colorized photograph printed in stereographic format. The catalog notes Grey Eagle and his son Tomahawk outside the tipi, with a woman holding a baby in the tipi entrance.
REVERSE / HANDWRITTEN NOTATION
The reverse contains an old handwritten pencil notation, apparently consisting of a name or names. Portions have been crossed out, and the handwriting is difficult to decipher.
I have left the original pencil writing intact rather than attempting to erase or alter it. This provides an interesting glimpse into the card’s subsequent ownership or history.
