Antique promissory note dated July 8, 1897, issued in Binghamton, N.Y. The document is handwritten in elegant cursive and includes a printed decorative border with an illustration of a steam locomotive on the left side. Affixed in the upper left corner is a 50-cent U.S. Internal Revenue documentary stamp, partially canceled with ink markings.
The text indicates a promise to pay Dickinson Bros. the sum of twenty-one hundred fifty-two dollars at their office. The note is signed at the bottom by Edward A. Bond. The overall appearance shows aging paper, fold marks, and period-appropriate printing typical of late 19th-century financial documents.
