Original handwritten business letter dated August 16, 1897, on illustrated Amsler & Schiller stationery from Brenham, Texas.
The decorative letterhead features a detailed horse-drawn buggy illustration and advertises agricultural implements, including “Agents for John Deere Plows and Cultivators,” along with Moline wagons, buggies and carts.
Based on our reading of the handwriting, the letter is believed to be addressed to M. T. Jones Lumber Co. in Houston and to request pricing for rough Texas pine lumber for construction of a gin house, including framing, boxing and flooring, delivered to Brenham. The handwritten closing appears to read “Amsler Bros.” A purple received/answered office stamp is also present.

An interesting piece of nineteenth-century Texas business correspondence featuring John Deere dealer advertising and an illustrated buggy.
Condition: Age toning, horizontal and vertical folds, creasing, scattered spotting and staining, edge tears, and small areas of paper loss. Damage along the right edge affects portions of the handwriting. The illustrated heading and most of the letter remain readable. Reverse is blank apart from show-through.
