The 1895 Washington Senators finished the season with a43–85 record, tenth place in the National League. Notable players like catcherDeacon McGuire played on the team. Deacon holds the distinction of havingplayed for 26 years in MLB and was one of the most durable catchers of the era.He is also considered one of the greatest catchers for throwing out basestealers.
Another standout player on this team was Edward Charles"Jumbo" Cartwright. He played first base for the St. Louis Browns andhere for the Senators. Cartwright is most famous for having seven RBIs in oneinning, accomplished with the Browns on September 23, 1890; his record wouldstand for 109 years until it was broken by Fernando Tatís of the Cardinals onApril 23, 1999.
