Pierce, Simmons & Co. was one of Red Wing’s important early private banking firms, established in 1868 by J. C. Pierce, T. K. Simmons and A. W. Pratt. The firm operated for decades and is documented in early Red Wing banking history. This later 1889 check is an attractive companion to the earlier 1870s Pierce, Simmons & Co. checks, showing the evolution of the firm\'s check design and banking operation.

Good antique condition with overall age toning and normal handling wear. There is noticeable paper loss and chipping at the left edge and lower left corner, with additional small edge wear. The check has a vertical center fold and a period bank cancellation stamp across the face. Writing, printed design, date, amount and James Lawther signature remain dark and easily readable. Reverse has light age toning and faint show-through. Please see photos for exact condition.
