  Original 1886 handwritten business letter from N.W. Ayer & Son, one of America’s earliest and most influential newspaper advertising agencies, headquartered in Philadelphia’s Times Building. Addressed to Mr. Geo. W. Whitlock of Nassau, New York, this letter discusses receipt of a $52.60 remittance and details regarding an advertisement intended for the Ladies’ Home Journal.

  The letter explains that the client’s ad for the January issue was received too late and was crowded out, though Ayer & Son assures the customer that future insertions should run without interruption. A nice early reference to the Ladies’ Home Journal, which at the time was rapidly becoming one of the most prominent women\'s magazines in the United States.
