Original Victorian “Boys’ Own Scrap Book” dating from 1882.
A lovely personal album containing numerous handwritten poems, verses, quotations and signed inscriptions, many dated during 1882.
The facing pages are decorated with colourful Victorian chromolithographic die-cut scraps depicting flowers, animals, birds, butterflies, landscapes, figures and humorous characters. One particularly attractive page has numerous tiny figures and animals arranged in a circular design.
The album measures approximately 24 x 19 cm.
An appealing piece of original Victorian social history, suitable for collectors of antique scrapbooks, friendship albums, handwritten manuscripts, chromolithographic scraps and Victorian ephemera.
Antique used condition with considerable age-related wear. The covers have fading, staining, rubbing and marks. The binding and page edges are worn, with some pages loose or weakened around the gutter. There is foxing, staining, small tears, creasing and other general wear throughout. Some scraps have losses or damage.
