Up for sale is an rare, genuine 1881 postmarked industrial trade acknowledgment postal card from the historic Washburn & Moen Manufacturing Company of Worcester, Massachusetts.
Dating from the height of the American Gilded Age, this beautiful Victorian document comes from the largest wire manufacturing syndicate in early US history. Washburn & Moen famously supplied the monumental steel cables required to build the Brooklyn Bridge and pioneered the mass production of barbed wire that transformed the American West. The front of the card features an elegant letterpress layout formally acknowledging a business order, dated in ink December 23, 1881, and signed by a company clerk \"Per C.E.M.\".
The reverse address side is written in beautiful period Spencerian script to N. D. Arnold, Trustee, a prominent industrialist and bank president in Providence, Rhode Island. It boasts an incredibly crisp, bold \"Worcester, Mass. Dec 23 1881\" circular postmark alongside a sharp geometric cork killer cancellation over an integrated black 1-Cent Liberty Head printed stamp (UX7 design). An outstanding museum-grade specimen for collectors of early American industrial history, wire/steel manufacturing memorabilia, or choice 1880s Worcester County postal history.
