1881 ALs re: PRESIDENT GARFIELD ASSASSINATION from Ambassador J. R. Lowell
Handwritten and Signed 2-page letter as Ambassador to England, dated August 29, 1881, containing good content regarding the recent shooting of President Garfield (who hadn’t died yet): “…I really cannot go out to dine til I get better news from Washington. My morning telegram thank God marked gain…by comparison with the two days before it was almost hopeful, but all hangs by a hair.” (Garfield died on Sept. 19th.)
