This distinctive aqua-colored rectangular glass bottle is associated with the famous Dr. King\'s New Discovery patent medicine marketed by H. E. Bucklen & Co. of Chicago.

Examples of this bottle are documented in museum and historical collections, and comparable examples are generally attributed to the late 19th century, with references placing this style in the 1880s–1890s era.

Dr. King\'s New Discovery was one of the many heavily advertised proprietary medicines of the period. Historical advertising promoted it for consumption, coughs, colds and various throat and lung ailments. The Smithsonian notes that the product was developed by Dr. Z. L. King and that Herbert E. Bucklen acquired the rights around 1878, subsequently building a nationally recognized patent-medicine business around the product.
