Original vintage 1878 United States government pre-stamped 1-cent black on buff Liberty Head postal card featuring an incredibly rare, museum-quality piece of early American holiday publishing, paper americana, and autograph history. Hand-dated September 16, 1878, the reverse face showcases an official corporate memorandum issued from the historic original print facility at 393 Main Street in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Crucially, the entire card is hand-penned and features a bold, magnificent live ink signature by the legendary founder of the American greeting card industry himself: George C. Whitney (Geo. C. Whitney). Writing to his legal counsel regarding a commercial debt asset collection, the message reads: \"Have you succeeded in recovering anything on the claim vs. Henry Fassett?\" The card is hand-addressed directly to prominent Gilded Age attorney E.H. Fitch Esq. in Ashtabula, Ohio. The address face displays an exceptionally sharp, bold Worcester, Mass. circular datestamp from Sept 16, 1878, perfectly struck with a premium concentric geometric target wheel killer cancellation over the integrated stamp. A breathtaking centerpiece for advanced collectors of antique Valentine history, early greeting card company advertising, or elite 19th-century American autograph material.
