April 20th, 1877
Mr. J. C. Newkirk.
Dear Sir:
Yours was received us yesterday, and I am sorry that Mr. Lane has not kept his promise. We are sorely pressed for money, but having no hope that you will ever collect any money from Lane, I will send you the amount of the taxes $7.25 cts, which you will greatly oblige us by paying. Ma is very sick with inflammation of the lungs, or I would go to Hudson and see you. I have something to tell you which might—

Very Truly Yours,
