Wonderful August 24, 1875 agricultural machinery LETTERHEAD from W. G. & W. Barnes, Managers, Freeport, Illinois, measuring approximately 8.5 x 11 inches.
The highly decorative engraved advertising header is the standout feature. It reads “Branch Office, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin” and advertises the Buckeye Mower and Reaper, Sweepstakes Thresher, and Canton Monitor Engine. At left is an excellent detailed farm scene showing a horse-drawn harvesting machine operating in a field.
The handwritten business letter is addressed to Messrs. Frost & Co., Awa[a], Wisconsin and concerns past-due notes and collection, with Barnes pressing for payment and stating that they “expect money and nothing else.”
Even better, the original advertising return envelope is included. It is printed:

The envelope retains its green 3-cent U.S. Washington postage stamp with a Freeport, Illinois AUG 25 cancellation.
