Original July 11, 1873 handwritten railroad-related letter written on attractive engraved Pennsylvania Hall, Wm. W. Reed, Proprietor, Pottsville, Pa. stationery.
The letter is addressed to Reckle & Bro. and concerns railroad business involving J. P. Lesley, identified in the letter with the Lehigh Coal & Navigation Co., and discussions about obtaining a track scale for new shops. The writer mentions the Old Penn. RR office, Reading, Pottsville, Millersville, Hamburg, and other Pennsylvania locations.
Of particular interest is the railroad/industrial content. The letter discusses a proposed scale for new shops, a new furnace, new tracks being put down, and travel over the Reading Railroad. It provides an interesting glimpse into Pennsylvania\'s coal, railroad, iron and industrial network during the 1870s.
Written on both sides of a single Pennsylvania Hall letter sheet and signed at the conclusion. Original fold lines, toning, scattered spotting/staining and general handling wear as shown. Please examine photos carefully for condition and handwriting.
