Original 1869 freight receipt/billhead from the Portsmouth, Great Falls & Conway Railroad, one of northern New England\'s early railroad lines. The printed form is dated May 18, 1869 and was issued at Rochester, New Hampshire. The document appears to be made out to L. B. Morton and records transportation charges for freight shipped from Portsmouth.
The handwritten freight description appears to reference one box of blinds and/or window-related goods, though portions of the entry are difficult to decipher and should be independently reviewed. The reverse bears a manuscript notation reading \"Morton Bill.\"
This is an attractive post–Civil War railroad document featuring a bold railroad heading, period typography, original manuscript entries, and evidence of actual business use. Early New Hampshire railroad ephemera is increasingly difficult to locate, particularly from regional lines that were later absorbed into larger systems.
