From a kind er: \"It seems they were students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Class of \'68. They were Félix A. Campuzano (Matanzas, Cuba), Fernando M. Figueredo (Bayamo, Cuba), and José R. Nadal (Mayagüez, Puerto Rico). I would guess that the inscription on the back refers to their ages (24), the year (68), and the school (R.P.I., Troy).\"
This carte de visite (CDV) photograph measures approx. 2½ x 4 inches, the standard CDV format of the period. The image shows three adult men posed together in a professional studio setting, all wearing top hats and formal mid-19th-century attire, including heavy overcoats. One man holds a walking cane, and classic studio props such as an ornate table and column plinth are visible, giving the portrait a confident, intentional, and slightly theatrical presentation.
The photograph is credited at the mount to A. CORDEY, troy ny, an active Troy, New York photographer during the Civil War era. The reverse bears a 2¢ blue U.S. Internal Revenue stamp, properly affixed and canceled, dating the photograph securely to circa 1864–1866, when revenue stamps were required on photographs.
A period pencil inscription appears at the top of the reverse, likely recording names and/or ages, adding genealogical and historical interest even though it is now faint. This is a civilian portrait (no uniforms present) and may represent business partners, professionals, or associates, rather than a family grouping.
