A fine original handwritten letter dated June 1st, 1868, written from Canterbury, Connecticut by P.H. Bliss to the firm of Messrs. George & Fenton. Single page, written in a clear, confident period hand on lined paper.
Bliss acknowledges receipt of the firm's note of May 27th regarding an outstanding due bill held against him in favor of "Mrs. Hbin" (possibly Hibin or similar), attributing the oversight to forgetfulness. He promises to come up and settle the debt in full upon his return from N.J. (New Jersey) — expected within a few days — and further pledges to pay accrued interest from the date the bill came due.
A candid and straightforward piece of 19th-century commercial correspondence, touching on debt, personal accountability, and period business practices between Connecticut parties.
