Major Robert Henry Curzon Drury Lowe 1830-1907. Dressed in generic blue patrol jacket and fur -bodied forage cap and wearing miniature versions of his medals.
At the time of this photograph he was listed as being in the Grenadier Guards.
He purchased a commission as an Ensign in the 74th Regiment of Foot in 1850 and served in the Kaffir War in South Africa between 1851-1853, During the Indian Mutiny 1857-1859 he served with the 52nd Regiment of Foot and was aide-de-camp to the Commander in Chief in Delhi.
In 1858 he joined the Grenadier Guards with the rank of Captain & Lieutenant. He served in China in 1860 and in Canada between 1862 and 1864, and rose to the rank of Colonel.
Drury-Lowe retired in 1895 and was a Magistrate for the county of Derbyshire.
