1854 Pitman Shorthand Manuscript Essay – Education & Religion, 2pp Rare:
$150.00

From a private estate, first time offered in over 70 years.

Offered here is a remarkable original two-page handwritten essay in Pitman shorthand, dated 1851 and titled “No. One.” This rare document is an early example of shorthand use outside of business and court reporting, applied here to an essay on education, religion, virtue, and society.

The essay begins:

> “Dear Friend, I have much pleasure in complying with your request to furnish you with an essay on the subject of education, which is so important to the improvement of society and the well-being of man…”

It continues with reflections on the importance of knowledge, the training of the mind, the duties of parents and teachers, and concludes:

> “…These remarks I offer in the hope that they may be of service. I remain, dear friend, your obedient servant.”
