Here's a rare early 1850s leather covered homeopathic medicine box from Dr.J.F.Sheek of Philadelphia, one of the pioneers of homeopathic medicine....The box is empty but originally would have had vials of medicine inside....The leather cover of lid has SAMUEL HAHNEMANN SIMILIA SIMILIBUS emb with bust of Hahnemann in middle....Inside of lid has a paper label which reads MEDICINES CONTAINED IN THIS CASE PREPARED AND SOLD BY J.F.SHEEK, HOMEOPATHIC PHARMCIST NO.239 ARCH STREET PHILADELPHIA (then goes to list 32 medicines)...purple felt lined wood case has leather on the top cover....7 1/2"long x 4 1/4"wide x 7/8"deep....Good condition with only normal old wear. Dr. Jacob Sheek (often referenced in historical texts as J.F. Sheek) was a pivotal 19th-century American homeopathic pharmacist whose business laid the direct foundation for Boericke & Tafel, which became one of the largest and most prominent homeopathic pharmaceutical firms in the world.
