1832 ANDREW JACKSON U.S. LAND GRANT PATENT – 80 ACRES INDIANA – GENERAL LAND OFFICE SEAL

Description

Offered is an original United States General Land Office Land Patent issued during the presidency of Andrew Jackson, dated March 8, 1832.

This federal land grant conveys 80 acres to Stephen Thorn, Jr., based upon a certificate filed through the Cincinnati Land Office pursuant to the federal land sale acts governing settlement of the American frontier.

The document records the transfer of the East Half of the Southeast Quarter of Section Seven, Township Seven, Range One East, situated within lands subject to sale through the Cincinnati Land District and located in present-day Indiana.

The patent bears the printed heading:

"THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"

and retains its original embossed General Land Office paper seal, a desirable feature often missing or damaged on surviving examples.

Land patents such as this represent the earliest chain-of-title documents issued directly by the United States government and remain tangible artifacts of America's westward expansion during the Jacksonian era.
