Offered is an original 1828 international legal and diplomatic document concerning Colonel Francisco Meyer of Bogotá, Colombia, executed in Baltimore, Maryland, and later authenticated by the Consulate General of Colombia in New York.
The English-language power of attorney is dated September 16, 1828 and appoints Godfrey Meyer of Baltimore to pursue and receive money owed to Francisco Meyer.
Of particular historical interest, the document references a claim of approximately $31,240 for four years of service as a Colonel of Artillery under General Mariano Montilla (1782–1851), an important military commander during the South American wars of independence and early Republic of Colombia.
The document was notarized in Baltimore by Samuel Farnandis, a documented Baltimore notary public who was involved in notarial matters concerning Colombian affairs during this period.
The reverse contains a handwritten Spanish authentication headed “Consulado General de Colombia,” dated New York, October 11, 1828, certifying the preceding document and notarial authority.
The consular certification retains an impressive original red wax seal, along with additional seal impressions.

Condition:
Approximately 198 years old with expected age toning, foxing/spotting, staining, original fold lines, edge wear, small separations and general handling wear. The red wax seal survives with age-related cracking. Both the English and Spanish portions remain substantially legible.
