1801 Boston Quitclaim Deed Tileston Clap Family Estate Signed Document Suffolk For Sale

Original quitclaim deed dated March 5, 1801, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. It's a printed "Know All Men by These Presents" form completed in ink. In it, Sarah Clap (widow) and Onesiphorus Tileston release to their brother John Tileston their shares in the estate of their late brother Benjamin Tileston, inherited from their father Onesiphorus Tileston. The deed specifically excludes the portion set off as dower ("thirds") to their mother, Judith Tileston.

It's signed by Sarah Clap and Onesiphorus Tileston and witnessed by two individuals. Both signers acknowledged it before Justice of the Peace John Phillips, on March 5 and April 1801. The Tilestons were a longstanding Boston family, and this is a nice early Federal-period example of Massachusetts property and inheritance law.
