1778-1779 Robert Erskine map (he was the geographer for GeneralWashington), this map was drawn and is a \"COPY\" of the original mapfor Gen. Washington 2\' x 3\'. This area shows northeast New Jersey and lower NYstate, Bay of Newark. This is a copy of a traced map (I traced it from anegative photocopy of the original in August1970). A copy of my map now hangsin a museum in the meeting room at the Wallace House Museum in Somerville, NJ. TheWallace House was where General Washington spent the winter of 1778/1779 and metmilitary leaders in this room, including his generals and Alexander Hamilton.You are purchasing a “copy” of my traced map that replicates the original map,email your questions, thank you SB PS Robert Erskine was born in Scotland in1735 and died in Ringwood NJ in 1780. He is known as “The Forgotten General”because of his impact on the success of the American Revolutionary War. He wasan inventor and an ironmaster who supplied much of the ordnance forWashington’s armies and was the surveyor for military maps the continental armyused. He was contracted to manage the iron mines in northeast New Jersey andthat is why he immigrated to the United States. For those who would knowBergen, Passaic and Rockland Counties, its people and its traditions and itshistory, this map covers all those territories. The roads and rivers shown onthis map are still visible today.
