This 12000 grit (approx. 0.5 microns) stone contains less hard, small particles and more compound, creates more slurry and faster wear than, in comparison, 2000 grit stone.
The stone is very dense (SG = 2.748) and very hard - almost like ceramic and gives a really fine polished edge.
It is also known as a slow stone, requiring 50 - 100 laps to polish the edge of a straight razor, but the results are superior smoothness - sometimes likened to a "buttery" feel.
It could give practically zero thickness edge that will cut hair just by feather slight touch.

Guangxi whetstone is sedimentary rock containing extremely fine silica-rich particles with a natural hardness suitable for polishing 12000 grit (approx. 0.5 microns), a very fine siltstone, hardened over millions of years.
Guangxi Water Stone vs. Novaculite vs. Washita
Novaculite: Quarried in Arkansas since the early 18001s. Used historically for razors and tools. A microcrystalline quartz stone with very high purity and hardness.
Washita: A porous form of novaculite, making it cut much faster than dense Arkansas stones. Historically produced by Pike and Norton; no longer quarried, only old stock remains. Considered one of the best fast-cutting natural stones.
Washita is fast and coarse‑medium, novaculite is dense and fine, and Guangxi is extremely fine but slow — making them complementary rather than competing stones.

I just lapped it on a piece of tempered glass and worked up to 1000 grit w/d paper. After 100 laps of my razor on the guangxi stone I put the edge under a microscope at 400x. Very nice edge. Thank you.

I just wanted to say that I was amazed at the super fast shipping on this stone. It arrived yesterday! I pulled out my DMT8 diamond plate and wet lapped this thing on both sides. Got the grooves out after about an hour worth of work and its absolutely beautiful. I polished a couple of straight razors with it, and it polished the edge great! Thanks so much for the great stone and great pricing! If I ever hear of anyone that is looking for a good 12K I'll send them your way. -Steve

This is a good whetstone. I think the 12000 grit description is about accurate. It took a long time to flatten this stone, but it was worth it. I lapped the stone for about an hour, and then gave my razor 100 strokes and a good stripping. Buttery smooth shave, comparable in sharpness to my Naniwa Super Stone, if not a little bit sharper. But much smoother than my coticule, the Naniwa, or my hard black Arkansas.
It was a joy. After several hours of lapping the stone and a massive learning curve on something I have never done the stone was flat. I honed my razors (2) then stropped them on leather with chromium oxide(green). They finally cut one strand of hair. Warning!! Do not use the slurry stone to lap the stone. Small pieces break from the slurry stone and become lodged under it. This caused deep scratches with every stroke. It added more unnecessary labor. I used my DMT plates to lap the stone.
I was able to put a shaving edge on a cheap razor with this stone once I had lapped it and flattened it. The color is great, dark and light gray with black speckles and reddish brown slotches, pictures don't do it justice. Compared to the synthetic stones that I use it's fast and it'll create a great bevel with slurry and then with just water it will polish.
