Lot of 11 antique stereoviews published by Kilburn Brothers of Littleton, NH — the partnership imprint used by Benjamin W. and Edward Kilburn from 1865 to 1877, before the firm became the solo “B.W. Kilburn” operation. Nine of the eleven carry the printed “Photographed and Published by Kilburn Brothers... Littleton, N.H.” imprint on the reverse; two (No. 605, Glen Notch, and No. 345, Main St. Hanover) have plain unmarked orange mounts with no printed credit, so their attribution rests on subject matter, card numbering, and printing stock consistent with the rest of the group rather than a printed line.
Views included: No. 6 Walkers Falls, Franconia Notch, NH; No. 34 Valley of the Saco, NH; No. 49 Cascade below the Flume, Franconia, NH; No. 52 Pool, Franconia Notch, NH; No. 71 Basin, Franconia Notch, NH; No. 125 The Babbling Brook (figural — two girls seated on a fallen log); No. 238 Hazel Dell, Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA; No. 345 Main St., Hanover, NH; No. 518 Pulpit Rock, Crawford Notch, NH; No. 605 View in the Glen Notch (Glen House hotel, winter); No. 671 Artist’ Brook, Conway, NH.
A well-rounded early New England set spanning the White Mountains resort circuit plus one of Mount Auburn’s garden-cemetery paths — strong range of subject matter (waterfalls, notches, a hotel in snow, a college-town street, a figural brook scene, and a landmark cemetery) for a single consignor’s collection. Orange/yellow mounts, period toning and edge wear consistent with 1870s stock, no major condition issues. Sold as a lot of 11, as pictured.
